About

Well preserved Roman, bronze figure of Apollo with authentic patina of age. Executed as “the Hunter of Souls” with arrow, quiver and bow. Apollo, God of transformation, prophecy, healing, light, poetry, music, magic, purification, death. Hunter of souls and action. Symbols: raven, music and dancing, lyre, laurel tree, wolf, deer, swans, golden chariot his silver bow and arrows. Baldur, aka Apollo, the dying-and-rising god. Light-deities ancestor, the Greek Protogonus Phanes, later divided in three deities: Helios, Pan (largely supplanted by Dionysus) and Apollo. In the Norse Myth, we have Baldur (Apollo), Sowili (Helios, but female) and Freyr (Dionysus, while Vidarr is Pan). A overall legend about a deity of light going down, but returning from the Underworld. Country: Danube Delta. Dacia, present day Romania Provenance: Old private coll.
