About the Item

A Pre Columbian Jadeite Axe God pendant from the Guanacaste/Nicoya region of Costa Rica Circa. 800 to 1200 AD. The axe god pendant of highly stylized Human form drilled through the neck for suspension. Jade and Jadeite was one of the most precious materials in Pre-Columbian cultures. Jade in pre Columbian times was used as jewellery and body decoration and was considered to have mystical properties for the wearer as well as giving power and prestige. Period: Costa Rica Guanacaste-Nicoya, Ca. 800 to 1200 AD Size: H 13 x 5 cm , 5 x 2 inches Comes with custom stand, Ex UK collection before 1960 Condition: original archaeological patina wear consistent with age
