A wonderfully designed and executed bowl by famed American California potter, Joel Edwards. This piece features his hand-painted brushwork. Edwards was inspired by Japanese Sumi and Abstract Expressionist painters and this bowl exemplifies this. Edwards was a student of Peter Voulkos at Otis. He also studied under Marguerite Wildenhain and Shoji Hamada. This hefty and solid bowl is signed by Edwards on the base. Would make for a great addition to any Mid-Century Modern pottery collection or eye-catching stand-alone work in about any setting. Signed on the base by Andreson. A quite special and rare work. Certainly, one of the best pieces of Andreson's work we have had the pleasure to come across. Highly collectible. Andreson, who studied under Glen Lukens, founded and headed the ceramics department at UCLA from 1933-1970.
