Mexican Antique Arbol de la Vida Folk Art Candelabra Ceramic Day of the Dead

About the Item

Created by late master Alfonso Castillo Orta in 1999 in the town of Izucar de Matamoros, in the state of Puebla, Mexico. The traditional "arboles de la vida" or "trees of life" in English were invented here, where a few artisans still Craft these authentic Folk Art pieces. Painted in colorful earth tones Castillo resembles the antique work of his ancestors, while maintaining its candelabra purpose. The "Arbol de la Vida" has been gifted for many generations as a marriage gift, resembling the family tree of life. The theme of the tree of life is focused around the Day of the Dead, were Castillo focuses on the offerings and mood around this important Mexican festivity. Skulls, skeletons, graves, costumes, food, cempasuchil flowers, and calaveras (skulls) come to life in this ceramic piece.
