About the Item

This colorful tree of life (árbol de la vida) with a toy like aspect is a unique piece by Marco Antonio Castillo, son of renowned artist Alfonso Castillo. Hand made with natural clay and painted with acrylic colors this piece is one of the few small pieces in his collection. Castillo uses Mexican bright colors and patterns used very often in his family's work. In the 1920s, when Marco's grandmother crafted trees of life (árbol de la vida) there was a believe in healing figures. The believe consisted in the figure absorbing your sorrows and discomforts, so that you could be clean from the hardships of life. This tree of life portraits healing figures in a beautiful blue tone tree of life. Made in Izucar de Matamoros, where the 1st trees of life were initially crafted.
