A wonderful and extremely rare/scarce early work by famed Los Angeles (Echo Park), California-based artist Peter Shire who was a founding member (along with Italian designer Ettore Sottsass and others) of The Memphis Group, an international design movement that came out of Italy during the 1980s (1980-1988), and specialized in postmodern furniture, lighting, fabrics, carpets, ceramics, glass, and metal objects. This work is signed (with Shire's "EXP" stamp) and dated (1978 A.D.) by Shire on the base. These early works are becoming quite rare and scarce - especially his unique and one-of-a-kind teapot pieces. Would be a great addition to any collectors of Shire's work or post-modern ceramic/ California Pottery collections or an eye-catching stand-alone piece in about any setting. In very good condition. The teapot lid has one small nick (clearly in the making as it is colored and glazed over) else no discernable flaws, cracks, chips, etc... (please see photos). A very special and unique work overall.
