About the Item
PRESENTING a LOVELY piece of reproduction Native American Antiquity, namely, a Vintage Pre-Columbian Style Pottery Centerpiece.
We are of the opinion that this was made circa the early 20th Century (circa 1900-20) and probably made in Mexico as a ‘tourist piece’.
Made of what appears to be terracotta and shows evidence of having been originally painted red and green with salt type glaze.
The centerpiece is very Mayan in form, style and shape, with 4 seated Mayan Warriors or Priests, sitting in a circle. Each holding a central bowl for making offerings to the Gods.
Each warrior or priest, has a highly decorated square headdress with sunbeam decoration.
In great condition for it’s age. One small chip to the top right corner of one of the headdresses of one figure.
Was obviously used to hold a candle at some stage with evidence of wax in the bowl.
