Vintage Canvas and Wood Swan Decoy

About the Item

Vintage Canvas and Wood Swan Decoy Anonymous 20th century; America Wood, canvas, wire Approximate size: 19.5 (h) x 30 (w) x 10.5 (d) Once a utilitarian object, this exquisite swan decoy now serves as a remarkable sculptural object-of-art, rendered with a subdued, hearty and elegant workmanship that signifies the commitment of its maker in imitation of its to-scale naturalistic counterpart. The charm of this wonderful object resides in its eloquence of form: from the eloquently sculpted neck and head to the scalloped form of its body with its aged canvas pulled taught over an underlying wire frame. We are reminded of its humble origins with the simple nail work holding the lower frame in-place and its aged patina which contributes to its beauty. A sculpture that serves as the perfect statement object or complement to Swedish Gustavian or Americana themed décor. Condition commensurate with age. Minor scuffs and staining present but in overall excellent and stable condition.
