18th Century Swedish Folk Art antique rustic Trunk /Chest

About the Item

18th Century Swedish antique rustique Chest from Boden Norrbotten, Northern Sweden. The chest has untouched original paint. The trunk was dated 1799 to celebrate a birthday ,and the name of the honoree are painted on the mid of the lid inside. Such trunks contained a lady`s dowry and her prized possesions that she would bring into marriage. The rounded top was designed to make ship and train personal place the trunk on top of the baggage for travel,keeping it from being covered by the rest of the cargo. A combination of dovetail joints and and hand-forged brackets were employed to ensure this particular trunk would have a long life. Even the handles have been structurally reinforced with iron strapping. Trunk opens to reveal capacious storage, and even the candle box remains at the top remainding us how precious candles were those days. perfect for providing a subtly originalpainted and historically significant addition to any decor Original working lock an key.
