Swedish Folk Art Wooden Lidded Tankards, Early 1920s
About the Item
Swedish wooden Lidded Tankard and Pitcher, made of staves that are held together with split-branch banding. The lids are hinged. Both beautifully decorated in blue-green and oxblood red with accents of black and white.
The pitcher is quite rare, more often can be seen tankards, but not pitchers in this shape.
Both show writings under the bottom, the pitcher is illegible, runes and figures, but under the tankard there is a visible inscription with black ink with the name and the date 15 May 1925... which could be just a dedication, as the items look older than 1925.
Both are wonderful pieces to add to your collection of Folk Art, early Scandinavian farm primitives. They are in excellent condition consistent with their age and they are quite usable for storage purposes.
