Antique Sioux Moccasins 'Plains Indian' 1870s Buckskin, Quillwork & Beadwork

About the Item

Pair of antique Native American moccasins dating to the late Classic Period (1650-1875). Hand crafted by a Sioux, Plains Indian, artisan, circa 1870s. The moccasins are constructed of native tanned buckskin (deer hide) with bands of quill work; the quills were dyed in colors of orange red, blue and yellow. Hand beaded around the soles with glass trade beads in blue, white, green and white-heart red. With rawhide soles and trade cloth sewn around the openings. Each moccasin measures approximately 11.75 inches along the sole from toe to heel, 4.25 inches in width and 4.5 inches in height. A nomadic tribe, the Sioux territory included parts of the Great Plains region of present-day North and South Dakota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Montana and Illinois in the United States as well as south-central Canada. We have been dealing in high quality Native American antiques since 1979 and authenticity is fully guaranteed.
