Exceptional pair of late 19th-century Northern Plains Native American wrist cuffs, attributed to the Crow (Apsáalooke) people. Also known as gauntlet cuffs, these pieces are crafted from hide and richly adorned with hand-sewn Venetian trade beads in a classic bar design—an iconic motif in traditional Crow beadwork.
The cuffs feature a vibrant color palette of pony trader blue, yellow, red, and green—hallmarks of Crow artistry. Each cuff is fully beaded, lined with cotton, edged in cloth, and finished with tin cone tinklers that add both visual and auditory appeal when worn.
The Crow people, native to the Great Plains—primarily in present-day Montana, Wyoming, and South Dakota—are renowned for their masterful beadwork, and these antique cuffs are a striking example of their craftsmanship and cultural heritage.
