About the Item

Papago hand woven basketry owl. Head comes off as lid. 9 1/2"H x 6 1/4"W. Attractive and well-made piece that would display nicely in a handmade indigenous basketry collection or Southwestern home. Papago baskets are handcrafted of beargrass, yucca cactus (white or green) and Devil’s Claw (black). The technique used is known as coiling. Split stitch baskets are made of beargrass and sewn with yucca in such a manner that the coil is exposed to form part of the pattern. Family Owned & Operated Cisco’s Gallery deals in the rare, exceptional, and one-of-a-kind pieces that define the history of America and the Old West. Our pieces range from American Indian to Cowboy Western and include original items of everyday life, commerce, art, and warfare that tamed America’s frontier.
