19th Century Sailor's Folk Art Woolie with Ship at Anchor Within Oval Cartouche, ca 1850, depicting a square-rigged single decker warship under furled sails, anchor chain leading off bow, flying British ensign at stern and ship's flags at each mast peak, in the background a lighthouse on a headland, under creamy sky with nicely done reflective sea; the vignette is set within a red, oval cartouche with rope border, White Fleet Ensigns in the two upper corners, fouled anchors in the two lower corners; mounted in period ebonized frame with gilt filets.
The woolwork remains in very good condition, with strong colors.
Measures: 21-1/8 in H x 26-1/8 in W in frame.
