America's Cup Yacht "Defender" of 1895

About the Item

Model of the America's Cup yacht "Defender" winner of the 1895 race, defeating Valkyrie III. The New York Yacht Club yacht was built and designed by Herreshoff for railroad magnate and Jockey Club founder William Kissam Vanderbilt (1849-1920). This Defender model is displayed in a custom mahogany and glass case with table stand. She is generously detailed with cabins, hatches, skylights, binnacle, helm, bowsprit, rope, helm and many others. Rigged with a full suit of stitched linen sails. 44" long x 14" deep x 70 1/2" high with table.
