About the Item

British Sailor's Woolwork of Second Rate Royal Navy Ship, Circa 1760-65 The sailor's woolie depicts a port side view of a Second-Rate Royal Navy ship under full sail on a blue sea with bands of clouds in the blue sea. The ship flies a large Red Ensign from the mizzen mast and a red banner from the main mast. The wool is stitched in a tight cross-stitch, a technique characteristic of earlier sailor's woolworks. The wool retains great color. Now elegantly presented, this maritime artwork is housed in a beautiful maple frame featuring a classic ogee-form. The frame is fitted with museum glass, chosen specifically for its ability to significantly reduce reflections while offering substantial UV protection, safeguarding this piece for years to come.
