About the Item

A beautiful sailor’s valentine with intricate shellwork under glass, in an octagonal mahogany case with raised shell decoration carved by master cabinetmaker Donald Dunlap of Antrim, New Hampshire, in the tradition of the 18th century Dunlaps. Donald Dunlap is the last cabinetmaker in the six- generation family of Dunlaps who began making furniture in America in 1765. Very good condition, with some minor scratches on the underside. Provenance: The Hurlin estate of Peterborough, NH, who purchased it directly from Dunlap in the 1990’s. This piece appears to be unsigned. Dimensions: 2 in H x 15.75 in W x 7.88 in D, open. Ref: 8
