About the Item
Exceptional and intricate blown glass ship, in red, white, and blue, tall and shapely with a billowing commission pennant and flag, probably Czechoslovakia, last quarter of the 19th century
This mindboggling, intricate little ship is one of the more remarkable pieces of blown glass that I have ever encountered. Probably Czech-made and similar in nature to some of their most rare and extraordinary, figural, blown glass Christmas ornaments produced there, the body of the vessel is made of looping and interwoven strands of clear blue and opaque white. The array of Fine, white ropes is nothing short of remarkable. Billowing down from the very top is a long, red commission pennant that wraps around a waving red flag.
Made sometime during the last quarter of the 19th century, a blue glass post, integral to the ship, extends through the bottom of the wooden base and affixes it in place. The base is original and is raised on 3 ball feet, with its original glass dome. All bout the ship is a mound of finely spun and flaked glass, with a consistency not unlike cotton candy, but coarser and reflective.
Tall, expressive, and sculptural, I can’t say enough about this exceptional curiosity.
Condition: On either side of the bow are two lines that terminate in mid-air. If followed out in straight lines, neither of these would intersect any other glass lines or any part of the ship, so it is difficult to know if they were broken at some point or not. Extremely careful examination yielded no clear answer. Otherwise the condition remarkable.
Note: hand-delivery is a necessity.

View AllElaborate Sailor Souvenir of Washington Crossing the Delaware, circa 1885-1912
Located in York County, PA
Elaborate sailor’s souvenir embroidery from the orient with a beautiful hand-painted image of Washington crossing the Delaware, surrounded by a large eagle, federal shield, crossed flags, a cannon, cannonballs, and anchor, circa 1885-1910:
Between roughly 1880 and 1915, American sailors visiting the orient could obtain beautiful needlework embroideries on shore, with patriotic American themes. These extraordinary works of art were acquired as mementos of a long voyage, often with the hope that they might be presented as gifts for loved ones and friends.

Dauphin County Pennsylvania Paint Decorated Dower Chest Made for Madlen Nafzer
Located in York County, PA
Dauphin County, Pennsylvania Paint-Decorated Dower Chest, Made for Madlen Nafzer in 1808
This colorful Pennsylvania German dower chest, with pinwheels and tiny flowers on Robin's egg blue tombstone panels, set on a salmon ground, was found with the descendents of Madlen Nafzer of Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. Passed down through her family for several generations, the chest is accompanied by a softbound book that details the history of the Nafzer family. It tells the basic story of the woman for whom the chest was made in 1808; of how her family arrived on American soil and of their subsequent moves from Pennsylvania to Ohio to Indiana with the migrating Pennsylvania Dutch Community.
Past its striking color and decoration, one of the most spectacular things about this particular chest is its untouched paint surface and early condition. While a lateral portion of the left, back foot is absent, broken and lost during the family's possession, the back of the foot is present and extremely stabile. This had been broken, presumably at the same time, but the original piece was kept and I personally doweled it back into place. I made no attempt to replace the missing side portion, so that the chest could be kept in this unspoiled form, a rare thing among surviving Pennsylvania Dower chests...

Seguso Murano Signed Topaz Clear Italian Art Glass Nautical Sailboat Sculpture
By Archimede Seguso
Located in Kissimmee, FL
Beautiful and large, vintage Murano hand blown Italian art glass clear glass sail with topaz gray boat sculpture. The sailboat is fully signed underneath, "Archimede Seguso Murano (Italy)". The piece has done in the Minimalism style. Very clean lines and design. The signature is acid etched on the bottom of the boat. Would make a great display piece on any coffee table or credenza. As you can see from the photos in the sun, it created a beautiful shadow. The topaz boat really picks up in color intensity. A must for collectors of Archimede Seguso pieces and Nautical / Sailing objects...

A four mast 18th century ship in a bottle, English folk art circa 1920
Located in Central England, GB
This very good example has been hand built in a smaller sized square bottle than normally seen. It contains a large four mast 18th century ship fully rigged and with open sails leaving the shoreline which has high cliffs and buildings whilst about to pass a lighthouse. The scale and detail are very good and it has been very nicely hand painted. These rare folk art bottles...
