Mid-Century Spanish Souvenir Model of a late 18 Century Frigate

About the Item

This souvenir model of a late 18 Century Sailing Frigate was crafted in Spain, circa 1950 and sits on an integral wooden base decorated with a small plaque which reads “Fragata Espanola Ano 1780.” The model is crafted to replicate a real frigate of the time with unique details including many string ringings, spare boats, hanging netting, a steering wheel, and two anchors. The name frigate in the 17th to early 18th centuries was given to any full-rigged ship built for speed and manoeuverability, intended to be used in scouting, escort and patrol roles. The model has a hand painted finish throughout, with the body of the ship painted black and gold details adorning the several bronze guns on either side of the ship. The billowing sails are made of canvas and the main sail features a large double-headed eagle crest and a crown. These models were produced by hand in Spain as souvenirs for tourists an are purely decorative.
