Austrian Armoire, Dated 1829

About the Item

This Tyrolean marriage dowry wardrobe is most likely crafted by a local cabinet maker and painted by a local painter. These beautiful Armoires were made of local Pine wood and reserved to be given as a generous gift to the newly wed young bride, to keep her dowry linen, this particular piece is date 1829 as painted over the door. The painted Tyrolean furniture is a particular production of the Alpine valleys of Northern Italy, Austria, and Germany. Each area had its own style recognisable by subject and colours, but common to all are the floral decorations and the ability to make the rooms warm and welcoming. Whether they are chests, wardrobes or rare sideboards, they are ideal for furnishing mountain homes, huts and chalets, country houses up to elegant city apartments, thanks to their young character and the ability to fit into any type of furniture , ancient or modern.
