Barnraising Log Cabin on Square

About the Item

Most often, Barnraising quilts are laid out on a diamond. In this quilt, it is done on square. The quilt is made entirely of wools with a cotton flannel backing. It has a nice arrangement of lights and darks. Red centers add a some "pop" to the muted colors. Condition is excellent. The quilt is from a Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Mennonite family. Measurements are 68" x 70". Made circa 1880's.

This Light and Dark Log Cabin quilt has more depth than the usual version of this pattern. The blocks are outlined with both red and indigo creating a frame around each of the diamond shape blocks.
