Large Antique American Hand Stitched Quilt, Sailboat Block Pattern, Early 20Th C

VINTAGE AMERICAN NAUTICAL QUILT A very decorative large-scale quilt. Completely hand stitched with green red and cream cotton blocks in a repeating pattern of ships, known as the ‘sailboat pattern’ with a large green border and white cotton backing. Excellent workmanship throughout with a wide variety of quilting stitch patterns on show including flowers, hearts, chainlinks, figure of eight and swags and bows. Looks equally good as a wall hanging or used as a quilt or bedspread. Probably American in origin and dating from the early 20th century period. Circa 1900-1940s. It is in very good vintage condition with no significant structural issues but has some signs of wear and throughout commensurate with age and use. Approximate measurements 254cm x 228cm or 100” x 90”. The above translates roughly to a UK super king-sized quilt or a US king-sized quilt.
