"Log Cabin" Antique Quilt


One of America's favority motifs, "Log Cabin" quilts were pieced with strips of cloth, or "logs", to create skillfuly laid out patterns in numerous variations, such as "Barn Raising" or "Straight Furrows", recalling life in rural 19th Century America. This spread was made from carefully chosen pieces of wool challis, a dress fabric popular during the Civil War period. The richly colorful fabrics in this striking quilt have been lovingly preserved and are in excellent conditon, with only minor signs of age.
