About the Item

This Miniature Nine Patch quilt is one of the smallest in scale that I have seen. Each block measures less than 2 inches to a side. It is from the collection of the Packwood House Museum in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania where a large collection of quilts was housed but not often seen, Their quilts were mostly from the central Pennsylvania area. This quilt is in pristine, unwashed condition. Measurements are 72" x 74". The variety of printed fabrics set against the unusual deep indigo ground; the scale and A1 condition make this an exceptional quilt.

This Light and Dark Log Cabin quilt has more depth than the usual version of this pattern. The blocks are outlined with both red and indigo creating a frame around each of the diamond shape blocks. The placement of fabrics gives this quilt a nice dimensionality. All of the fabrics in the quilt are calico with the exception of the red used for the frame and border. The red border is quilted with diagonal lines. Measurements are 80 inches square...

Vintage American Amish “Nine Patch” Hand-Stitched Patchwork Quilt
Located in Barrington, IL
This beautifully hand-crafted cotton quilt, created by the Amish community of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, dates to the mid-1900s and features the timeless “Nine Patch” pattern—an enduring symbol of simplicity, harmony, and tradition in American quiltmaking. Composed of individually hand-cut and hand-stitched pieces in a rich palette of purples, blues, and earthy browns, the quilt exemplifies the quiet elegance of Amish design. The fine stitching throughout reflects a high level of skill and dedication, embodying the values of patience, precision, and practicality. Like many quilts of its kind, this piece was made using repurposed materials—textiles originally intended for everyday use—transformed through craftsmanship into an object of lasting beauty. It stands as a poignant example of upcycling long before the term existed, turning necessity into art and function into heritage. While photographs may not fully capture the depth and nuance of its colors, a video is provided for a more accurate representation. This quilt offers not only warmth and comfort but also a tangible connection to a unique cultural legacy—ideal for collectors, historians, or those with an eye for the understated artistry of American folk tradition. 19th Century Hand Stitched American Silk Quilt
Located in Barrington, IL
Celebrate the brilliance of American folk art with this exquisite hand-stitched silk quilt from the late 19th century. Crafted with exceptional skill and care, this quilt features an ultra-modern aesthetic that echoes the iconic “piece bars” style popularized by 19th-century Mennonite quilters in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Each rectangular silk piece—measuring approximately 1” x 5”—was individually cut and stitched by hand, creating a striking geometric design that feels both timeless and avant-garde. The rich array of vibrant silk fabrics shimmers with life, making this quilt a true visual feast and a testament to the maker’s artistry and dedication. More than a textile, this quilt is a labor of love—an heirloom-quality work of art that bridges function and beauty. Due to the delicate nature of 19th-century silk, such quilts have become increasingly rare and highly collectible. Their fragility only adds to their mystique and historical value. Perfect as a wall tapestry, this handcrafted quilt is equally captivating whether displayed vertically or horizontally. It’s a powerful conversation piece and a beautiful window into America’s rich quilting heritage. Dimensions: 60” x 78” Date of Manufacture: 4th Quarter of 19th Century Place of Origin: United States Material: Silk Fabric Condition: Wear consistent with age and use The Persian Knot, SKU: 2268 Antique Mennonite Quilts, Pennsylvania Mennonite Quilts, American Applique Quilts, Vintage Pennsylvania Quilts, Antique Applique Quilts...
