Moody Navy, Spring Green & Camel Over-sized Runner, c.1940's

About the Item

Moody Navy, Spring Green & Camel Over-sized Runner About: Absolutely stunning over-sized long tribal runner that has so many unusual and noteworthy elements it's not even funny! First, we can talk about the length/width ratio - where are you going to find this long of a runner at only 3 feet wide?! Usually the longer the rug, the wider the rug - but this goes against all the rules and stands to be a narrow and long runner that is perfect for most long hallways. Second, the plush pile on this is incredible offering the feet some wonderful wool to walk on and the eyes some great sheen and glow to witness as the lanolin in the wool is great for this piece. Third, the colors! Deep and moody variations of indigo to midnight blue to inky blue-black and navy to the navy. Very rich reds, an unusual saffron-sunflower yellow, icy blues, and this spring green that will light your eyes up! This green is a phenomenal green that speaks to you on all levels - we don't see much green in old rugs because it was the most difficult dye to dye, so when we see it we are always drawn towards it, for good reason. Fourth, the design of this rug is unbelievably unique. From a quick glance, you see an all-over design with beautiful filled motifs and geometric elements throughout - but if you look closely, you will see the outlines of iconic northwest tribal medallions taking shape. It is hard to identify because these medallions are the same color as the background/field color of the rug (which in itself is unique). It's pieces like this where the more you know, and the more you learn, the more you start to see the complexity and uniqueness - which in turn starts to grow the appreciation for the artisans that created this gem. This piece is very ralph lauren-y, meaning moody, sophisticated, and relentlessly beautiful! You will love this piece. Size: 3 x 16.6 Age: Antique C. 1940's Pile: Medium This rug is one-of-a-kind, only one available. Iconic Water Garden Colorful Antique Runner, c.1940's
Located in Milwaukee, WI
Iconic water garden colorful antique Runner About: The most colorful runner on online. There is no rug that comes close to touching this piece in terms of uniqueness in the color combination. Iconic water garden design grounded in deep navy, with a bag of skittles woven all throughout this piece in the most tasteful, elegant, and charming way. It's not gaudy, rather sophisticated. It's not loud, rather playful. It's not commercial, rather so original that we know these weavers don't weave rugs with this many colors often- it's difficult, it's more time consuming, and it takes so much patience. Imagine switching balls of wool every few knots. Imagine trying to stay [loosely] consistent with the colors and design. So much work, so much soul, and there's no wonder why you can sense the energy this piece has when it's rolled out in front of you. It feeds your eyes, your soul, and speaks to everything there is to be said about sensational tribal runners. Lavender borders flank the soft antique beige true border, that all frame the deep navy field that organically switches to coffee color and back to the navy. Olive greens spring out into the petals of flowers, magenta, and deep saffron, and sunflower yellow pokes through like the sun in the morning time to really energize this piece. French, peacock, and midnight blues weave in and out cooling the rug down with their variations, and watermelon, salmon, blush, and apricot counter that coolness with their warmth. I must say, from all of our pieces we have only ever had one other runner to rival this size, color, and sheer beauty - that piece sold to a very niche space and client that saw what we saw - we know this piece will go to another space that will do it justice, and to a client that refuses to settle for the ordinary. If you're a designer that has a client or project that really does honor the unique, this is a wonderful piece if they can take this size. Impossible to ignore in size, colors, design, and story. You can't ask for anything more than that - 10...
