18th Century Continental Italian Baroque Wood Carved Kneeling Angel Sculpture
About the Item
A truly magnificent and wonderful large hand-carved Italian Baroque wood church angel from the 18th Century. This work, which at one point was likely polychrome and painted, features a finely carved kneeling angel gazing at and reaching for the heavens above him. The angel has a beautiful youthful expression and a gorgeous patina acquired with age.
Provenance:
Property from a Private Collector, Venice, Italy.
One of the better angel sculptures we have come across. Would be a great addition to any collection and/or clearly stand out in any setting as an eye-catching stand-alone accent work. Quite unique and engaging overall.

- Condition:Repaired: Signs of previous repairs to the left hand and other small areas, quite common with pieces of this age. In good vintage condition with some loss (to left foot, three fingers of the right hand, old woodworm holes, back wing missing portion) and natural organic wear consistent with age and use (please see photos). Beautiful, unique, and engaging overall.
