Large European Antique Carved Painted Silver Gilt Religious Altar Niche

About the Item

A large one-of-a-kind European antique hand carved polychrome painted silver-gilt religious altar niche with beautifully aged warm distressed patina. Born in Continental Europe around the turn of the late 19th / early 20th century, rustic hand-crafted solid pine wood construction, Gothic Revival architectural church steeple pointed arch facade with cross finial, original glazed glass panels, removable back accesses divided three interior sections, rectangular plinth base, rising on turned feet. Dimensions: (approx) 28" High, 18.5" Wide, 7.75" Deep Divided interior compartments- Fits Santo altar figures approx: Center: 15.5"h, 7"w, 3.5"d Sides: 12"h,3.75"w, 3.5"d, Please note, the Santos shown in the staged photos are not included but are available separately. Mid-20th century, Mexico, primitive hand-crafted construction, one-of-a-kind, likely depicting San Miguel Arcángel (Saint Michael the Archangel), hand carved gessoed polychromed solid wood figural sculpture, standing on integral plinth base, affixed with metal wings, right hand raised holding a sword. Provenance / Acquisition: From the estate of Margaret "Candy" Becker (Austin, Texas 1942-2022). She was an artist in all areas of her life who created art in many different media, including needlework, quilting, watercolor, acrylics, mosaic, and clay. Candy was a consummate traveler who spent time in Mexico, Guatemala, Japan, Iran, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Spain, England, and Ireland.
