Rare Antique Collection of Folk Art Brush Holders w. Brushes Dogs, Cat and Bird

About the Item

Wonderful designs and great condition set of sculptural animal brush holders. Not too long ago men and women here in Europe who could afford leather shoes took good care and therefor also regularly brushed their leather shoes and/or boots. Especially during the second world war and in the first 5 years after, many men (and woman) had time on their hands and among other kinds of folk art they also started hand-carving unique and decorative sculptures that could function as brush holders. Looking at this rather good quality collection, some were actually very good at it. What we also immediately noticed is that many of these antiques have a cartoonesk quality to them and we feel that especially in those times people needed things/items around them that would (again) put a smile on their faces. To us, that too is what makes this folk art collection interesting to say the least and perhaps also historically or at least socially important. So if you are a collector of rare folk art and/or if you are looking for a unique way to decorate a part of your room or business then this beautiful set of seven handcrafted brush holders (most of them with brushes) from the early to mid 1900s could be the perfect addition to your home or collection. Both in terms of design and execution these seven unique folk art brush holders are among the best and coolest looking we have ever seen. If you already have a place or space in mind for these special antiques from early to mid 1900s Europe then maybe you should be their next custodian. They will also look great in a vitrine or on a shelf. Mind you, our price for this great-value-for-money-group even includes perfect packing and also worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 4 to 6 days. Maximum height x width x depth of the tallest sculpture (bird) including the brush: 11 x 4 x 4 inches. Height x width x depth of the dachshund including the brush: 9.45 x 4.7 x 5.9 inches. We have a passion for the unique, for quality, for stylish yet practical and for craftsmanship of years gone by. Your purchases will be extremely well packaged and we look forward to serving you (again).

  • Mexican Folk Art Wood Carving Traditional Dance Handmade Alebrije One of a Kind
By Ruby Fabian, Manuel Cruz Prudencio
    Located in Queretaro, Queretaro
The young dancers wear an armor of threads over their bodies, showing off an ancient indigenous art form. Colorful thread combinations characterize the huipil dress, a rectangle of cloth handwoven on a backstrap loom that dates back thousands of years in used in Zapotec culture. Through symbols in their dresses, Zapotec women wear their identity, history, culture, power, social and marital status, religion, personality, and power. In this folkloric dance, “Flor de Piña” (Pineapple Flower), innocence surrounds young girls as they dance and hold pineapples on their shoulders as an offering. Their long braids represent purity and their bare feet symbolize their connection to the Earth. This folkloric dance is part of the “Guelaguetza” (name in the indigenous Zapotec language) Festival Celebration. Since pre-hispanic times, the indigenous people of Oaxaca have honored the goddess of maize with this festival, performing and offering gifts to ensure a good harvest. Husband and wife, master woodcarver Manuel Cruz and wood painter...
