16 Yaruba Tribal Currency Gongs on Hoop, Ex Seward Kennedy Collection

About

An excellent and unusual early 20th century tribal currency item that has 16 individual gongs on a large iron hoop. Displays well and can be hung anywhere, measures 30cm high from top to bottom, average gong height is 13cm with the hoop diameter being 18.5cm. The Yaruba people are from Nigeria where they form one of the largest ethnic groups in Africa. This item was part of the extensive Seward Kennedy collection that was auctioned off after his passing.
