19th Century Sotho Vessel, South Africa

About

An extremely rare 19th century ceramic vessel, South Africa. Ceramic vessels from South Africa dating to the late 19th century are extremely rare. We are pleased to be able to offer this fine example which came out of a collection in the United Kingdom. It was most likely taken back as a souvenir to the U.K. by a soldier or missionary working in South African. The vessel, by the Sotho people, depicts a wonderfully abstract rooster. The condition, considering the age, is very fine. This is an exceptional piece that is a wonderful tribal antique as well as a great work of Folk Art.
