Finely Woven Tutsi Grass Fibre Screen ('Inyeqamo'), Rwanda
About the Item
Rare to find, screens such as this would have been rolled down to separate the sleeping area and alcove in a traditional Tutsi household. The weaving, made from fine strands of grass fibre is supported by a series of bamboo stems. The free-flowing zigzag design is one that is often found on Tutsi basketry and screens.
