Late 19 Century Tribal Baule Male Figure with Period Mount African Art

About the Item

A brass tag was nailed to the back. This interesting and slightly shocking means of identification, tells us more about the artistic disdain and ethnographic interest of the European 19th century, than anything else. The base is also more 'ethnographic' than 'artistic'.
