About the Item
This large mid-twentieth century headrest, carved from a single piece of wood, comes from the Dinka culture in South Sudan. With multiple upright supports, the headrest displays a wonderful animal-like form.
Attached to the headrest is a plaited leather strap, which originally served as the handle. As a result of use, the headrest exhibits a smooth patinated surface, particularly around the curved neck support area.
