About the Item

A rare Swedish Rococo chandelier from the 18th century, distinguished by its finely cast brass frame and an unusually elaborate assemblage of hand-cut crystal elements. The chandelier’s elegant Rococo silhouette is defined by gently scrolling arms and a light, airy balance that reflects the refined Scandinavian interpretation of the style. A remarkable feature of this piece is its central blown-and-cut crystal element, an extremely rare survivor from the period. Its sculptural form serves as the visual anchor of the chandelier, catching and refracting light with exceptional clarity. Surrounding it, cascades of leaf-shaped cut crystals—meticulously faceted —contribute both sparkle and organic movement, reinforcing the Rococo’s characteristic playfulness. The solid brass frame retains a warm, historic surface and supports six arms, each fitted with period bobeches and candleholders. Overall, the chandelier presents a harmonious interplay between metalwork and crystal, offering a level of craftsmanship seldom seen even among 18th-century Scandinavian examples.
