2 Tier 17th Century Electric Model Dutch Brass Chandelier with 12 Lights H70xW62

About the Item

Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669) was a Dutch painter, etcher and illustrator. He is regarded as the most significant Dutch master of the 17th century and one of the best painters and etchers in all of European art. About three hundred paintings, three hundred etchings, and two thousand sketches were created by him in total. His work belongs to the Baroque period and is visibly influenced by Caravaggism, although he never visited Italy. His extraordinary skill in manipulating light and dark, frequently employing stark contrasts (chiaroscuro) to draw in the viewer, resulted in dramatic scenes with clear details. Emulating an ornate 17th century Dutch original, the two-tier Rembrandt 369 chandelier casts a decadent glow with twelve gracefully arched brass arms. At 70cm high and 62cm wide, this striking yet refined fixture exudes the grandeur of Holland's Golden Age with hand-detailed metalwork swirling across the frame. Though inspired by a historic piece, the Rembrandt 369 is modernly wired while preserving the allure of antique craftsmanship. With its solid brass construction and the rich, warm lighting of an age past, this stylish chandelier is a divine Dutch accent for contemporary settings. Original historical moulds from the era are utilised to create the brass components. Additionally, casting is still done the old-fashioned way in a greasy type of sand called Brussels’ soil. After the crown has been varnished, skilled artisans assemble the components. Electric wires run subtly along the arms, as they are made out of solid brass. The arms and curls are soldered together. While the crowns are being put together, the electrical wiring and lighting components are covertly placed. Brink & van Keulen, a family-owned business founded in 1946, upholds the art of casting by producing the highest calibre brass chandeliers. Chandeliers by Brink and van Keulen can be found in a number of prestigious churches and monumental buildings in the Netherlands and other parts of the world. Through the transmission of knowledge through many generations, Brink & van Keulen has substantially aided in the preservation of the Dutch yellow casting craft. The business is the sole manufacturer of chandeliers using original casting moulds from the 17th century in all of Europe.
