About the Item
- An original and extremely rare satin opaline Bauhaus ceiling pendant by Kandem, Germany circa 1920.
- A remarkable triangular design to the glass in an incredible condition for its age, the gallery manufactured in ornate steel and porcelain and with original chain and ceiling rose.
- Height 70cm, Width 40cm, Depth 40cm.
- Rewired in braided flex and PAT tested.
Kandem Lighting manufacturer Körting & Mathiesen also known as Kandem were founded in Leipzig Germany in 1889. As the company grew it formulated a contract between the Bauhaus metal workshop and school directed by metalsmith and photographer Marianne Brandt. Brandt and her students designed and developed lamps for mass production. The Kandem-Bauhaus relationship ended in 1933 when the school closed, production continued and they are now widely considered to be the benchmark in design history.
