About the Item

An elegant suspension lamp designed by Archimede Seguso in 1940s and produced by Venini, Italy. It's structure is made of glass and metal supports. Archimede Seguso was born in Murano on 17 December 1909. At the age of 11 he began working in a furnace and honed his skills by remaking eighteenth-century glass. In his early twenties he became an excellent master glassmaker, also distinguishing himself with the newly created workmanship of heavy artistic glass. He hired first Vittorio Zecchin and then Flavio Poli as designers in the family factory "Seguso Vetri d'Arte". From the 1930s he was invited to exhibit at the Venice Biennale, where, until 1972, the dedicated "Venice" Pavilion was located to Murano glass. Among his main works, created in the first decades of activity, we can remember the animals, for the beauty of which he was nicknamed "the Master of Animals", the figure of the boxer "Primo Carnera" from 1934, the portrait of the future wife of 1937 and the thick “bullying submerged glass” or “profuse with gold”, “corroded” or “iridescent” such as “The Zodiac” of 1935. Having left "Seguso Vetri d'Arte", in 1946 Archimede founded the "Vetreria Artistica Archimede Seguso", thus obtaining full creative independence.
