Paul Gagnon is the son of Louis Alfred Gagnon (Paris, 1870), son of a locksmith, had made his entire career as a chaser, one of the most renowned among his friends. He first settled around 1890 in one of the chaser workshops at 10 rue Villehardouin and in 1903 he won the first prize for chasing in the prestigious competition of the Willemsens Foundation. In 1909, he set up his workshops at 10 – 13 Passage du Chantier where he would develop his activity in the manufacture and design of artistic bronzes and lighting. From the end of the 1920s, he collaborated with the designer and decorator Georges Dunaime, who designed many lighting fixtures produced by Alfred Gagnon and his son Paul. In 1929, Alfred Gagnon transferred the business to his son Paul, who signed his bronzes “P. Gagnon” throughout the 1930s.
