About the Item

The CALYX ceiling fixture; a playful piece of functional sculpture inspired by the "Calyx" fabric designed by Lucienne Day, 1951. This fixtures works especially well over a dining table, bar, or kitchen island. A note on the design: Blueprint lighting's Chief Luminary, Kelly Aaron, opened her first Mid-Century Modern design store in 1999 and became a respected young voice in mid-century design, Studio Pottery and modern craft; guest-curating museum exhibitions, contributing to arts texts and giving gallery talks. Around this time, her extreme adoration of Lucienne Day's textile designs began; Kelly spent time tracking down bits of vintage Lucienne Day barkcloth to fabricate pillows in the back of her retail shop. Per Kelly, "Our Calyx fixture was inspired by Day's iconic "Calyx" fabric that earned the gold medal at the Milan Triennale in 1951--I wanted to emulate her style in three dimensions. Our fixture imparts the optimism and energy of the fabric design. " All shades are on pivoting joints to allow for the positioning of light. Mounts to ceiling with two (2) drop rods and ceiling canopies, with wiring coming out of only one of the rods. Fabricated in brass and shown in our ORB finish, but may be made in any of our six in-house metal finishes or 36 in-house enamel colors (all shown in final images). The enamel colors shown are our Matte Black and Perfect White in gloss. Shade color(s) may be specified. Dimensions: 52"l x 16"w, 8"h, shown with a total overall height of 45" Overall height may be specified. Fixture as shown, has four (4) E12 sockets (candelabra socket). Dimmable. We recommend G16 (small globe shape) bulbs in incandescent or LED with a 60-watt equivalent. Bulbs are not included. All Blueprint Lighting products are UL-listed.
