About the Item

Guseul is an experimental ceiling light crafted from multiple spheres employing various techniques. It consists of four distinct components: the black sphere, embellished black sphere, red sphere, and lighting fixture. The black sphere is meticulously crafted using Ott, a Korean lacquer made from natural wood resin known for its durability that can last for centuries. The black sphere with embellishments features intricate lines made from mother-of-pearl, adding a touch of elegance. Meanwhile, the red sphere showcases the ancient Chil-bo (cloisonné) technique, a traditional method for decorating metal objects. This piece is a fusion of diverse techniques and rich history, blending modern furniture design with our traditional culture to create a more accessible aesthetic. It represents an attempt to integrate contemporary design sensibilities with our heritage. When Tiger Used to Smoke: Collection implies the idea of long-term sustainability by working with masters of each field who deserve much more recognition and incorporating modern furniture design with our traditional culture to make it more approachable. WKND Lab specializes in various design disciplines, including material research, object design, furniture design, and art installation. With a focus on material-driven narratives, WKND Lab communicates its philosophy about the dynamic interplay between design, humanity, and the natural environment.
