About the Item

Very unique and large hexagonal shaped bronze ecclesiastical lantern designed by the French goldsmith, Edmond Lesage (1859-1928), from the heights of the Art Nouveau period and Renaissance Revival movements, featuring three large enameled panels depicting architectural subjects including fountain, castle tower and castle gate with Hebrew inscription. Bronze engraved at the waist, EX ANNO DEI 1901 + E COURREIL (FROM THE YEAR OF GOD 1901 + E COURREIL) and around the base, EDMOND LESAGE ORFEVRE + H RAULIRE ARCHITECTE. The artist was revered for his ecclesiastical and ceremonial designs, including candle prickets, lighting, chalices and monstrances.
