About the Item
A beautiful Swedish modernist chandelier attributed to Erik Tidstrand for the renowned Swedish department store Nordiska Kompaniet. Produced in the 1930s, during a time when functionalism had its breakthrough in Scandinavia. Crafted from steel and chrome plated brass with original orange finish on the cylinders, and three bowl-shaped shades made from light yellow glass. All details are of exquisite quality, showcasing the craftsmanship of the early Swedish lighting industry.
The Swedish department store Nordiska Kompaniet, NK, opened in Stockholm in 1902. It played a significant role in introducing modern and innovative retail practices to Sweden, bringing the concept of a department store to the city and offering a wide range of goods under one roof. The company had their workshops in Nyköping, which were known for their exceptional craftsmanship and dedication to quality. NK often collaborated with renowned designers to create unique and innovative pieces. These collaborations resulted in furniture and decor items that were highly sought after and considered design classics.
