French 19th Century Louis XVI St. Ormolu Chandelier
About the Item
A spectacular and most impressive French 19th century Louis XVI st. ormolu chandelier. This important fifteen light chandelier is centered by striking and wonderfully executed tied garlands with charming finely detailed tassels tied at the center leading to outstanding fluted cornucopias. Each cornucopia displays a stunning array of abundant richly chased ripe fruit and beautiful blooming flowers housing one candle cup and flanked by superb spiral fluted arms leading to fine floral candle cups. Tied to each cornucopia are unique and extremely decorative swaging garlands with an outstanding fabric design, delicate tassels, and lovely floral designs leading upwards centering a charming intricately detailed winged cherub seemingly flying with a quiver over his shoulder and a bow in his hand. The garlands lead upwards to culminate in a spectacular tied bow design while centering a tapered spiral fluted torch like design with an exquisite inverted acorn finial amidst acanthus leaves and the powerful eternal flame above all in a magnificent satin and burnished finish.
