French 19th century Louis XVI/XV st. Ormolu and patinated Bronze chandelier

About the Item

A stunning and high quality French 19th century Louis XVI/XV st. Ormolu and patinated Bronze chandelier. This impressive sixteen light chandelier is centered by an acorn bottom finial located below a scrolling foliate designed circular base. The foliate base supports the scrolling foliate arms that contain acanthus leaf decorated bobeches and candle cups at the end of each arm. Moving upwards on the central fut, a most unique aspect is presented, which is that the patinated Bronze winged cherub, wrapped in fine Ormolu garments, holds the entire lower section of the chandelier in his left hand. The cherub is gracefully hanging from the upper section of the chandelier with his wings open also holding a torch of the eternal flame in his right hand. The upper section of this eye catching chandelier displays three scrolling foliate designed bands that present the pierced top crown/canopy that is also tastefully decorated with scrolling foliate designs. *Shades, Canopy and Chain shown for display purposes, sold separately.
