About the Item
An exceptionally refined and beautifully balanced French Louis XVI style silvered bronze, rock crystal and crystal chandelier, composed in an elegant tiered circular formation and rising in a graceful pyramidal silhouette from a central baluster-form shaft. The top canopy is enclosed by symmetrical strands of faceted crystal beads, which drape in harmonious swags to anchoring points on the upper tier—each strand delicately punctuated with alternating rounded and faceted elements that shimmer with movement.
The finely cast silvered bronze frame displays a superb level of detail, with scrolling arms and beaded collars arranged in two concentric, staggered tiers. A total of 12 electrified faux candle-lights are supported on these arms. Beneath each light, scalloped bobeches are adorned with cascades of teardrop and pear-shaped crystals suspended from delicate rings of faceted buttons, creating a layered and radiant effect.
The chandelier’s neoclassical inspiration is evident in its symmetry and structural clarity, hallmarks of the French Louis XVI style. Graceful scroll brackets emerge from intricately cast foliate supports, while beaded rings and classical collaring motifs enhance the arms and joints. The central shaft is encircled with a band of acanthus and volute relief, culminating in a beautifully faceted spherical drop at the finial, from which radiating chains descend, each terminating in a varied and thoughtfully arranged crystal pendant. Larger rock crystal drops—including several richly rutilated examples—are prominently positioned throughout, particularly between the arms and beneath the lower tier, lending visual depth and a striking material contrast.
