About the Item

Spectacular large French Louis XV style ormolu and fine cut crystal two-tier twenty light chandelier, 19th century. The chandelier is surmounted with a gilt bronze flame, above a central shaft issuing five laurel leaf decorated supports, the top tier consisting of a ring with five candle holders, shaft supports centered by a large cut crystal spike, the bottom tier branching into fifteen foliate-inspired scrolling candle arms, decorated with acanthus leaves and mounted with intricate ormolu mythical masks, all heavily adorned with various large multi-faceted cut crystals throughout. Extreme attention to detail on the bronze work; especially to the foliate decorating and mythical masks. The uniquely wide proportions and the large crystals give the chandelier a grand-like impression.
