About the Item

An extremely rare chandelier by French designer Gilbert Poillerat from the 1950's. A truly one of a kind piece. Patinated iron, frosted glass, ostrich egg and monofilament line. Gilbert Poillerat is one of the most renowned French designer and wrought iron master of the 20th. Born in 1902 in a small town in France, Poilleart remained a relevant figure in French design keeping with changing tastes, he became much simpler and more severely rectilinear, relying on perfect proportions for dramatic effect. This spectacular piece is an example of that era. Good condition. Circular elements, which help hold diffusers in place, are slightly askew, causing a few of the diffusers to lean slightly when installed. Each diffuser has some minor scuffing near middle, from contact with fixture over time, and also displays roughness along upper and lower edges. Fixture would benefit from a light cleaning prior to installation. Lamp is equipped with eight bayonet-style sockets. Wired for European use and functions properly.. We could wire it for US standards per client request.
