About the Item

A spectacular and large Hollywood Regency gilt bronze and beaded glass circular chandelier. The chandelier is structured in a rounded basket form, suspended by four linked gilt bronze chains attached to a foliate crown canopy. The circular frame features a molded gilt bronze rim decorated with alternating bands of laurel and beaded motifs, supporting a body composed of tightly strung faceted glass beads arranged in a uniform lattice pattern. Vertical gilt bronze bands intersect the frame, cast with neoclassical ornament including geometric motifs, rosettes, and stylized floral designs, dividing the surface into sections. The lower terminal is fitted with a gilt bronze foliate knop and a finely detailed acorn finial. The chandelier is constructed of gilt bronze and cut glass, typical of Hollywood Regency lighting design that emphasizes both opulence and structured form. The beaded glass segments create a continuous surface, fully contained within the bronze framework. The decorative finial is cast with scrolling acanthus leaves, while the rim’s banding displays a repeating ovolo design, emphasizing the circular form of the fixture. Each of the suspension chains is finished in heavy gilt bronze links, proportioned to balance the weight of the chandelier. Hollywood Regency lighting pieces of this type often referenced neoclassical ornamentation, combined with the modern sensibilities of mid-20th-century design.
