Italian 19th Century Gilt Bronze and Enameld Neo Gothic 12 Lighs Chandelier

About the Item

This antique 19th century Italian large gilt bronze and enameld Neo Gothic pendant chandelier dating back to 1850 circa is a stunning handcrafted light fixture designed in the shape of an advent wreath with quatrefoil pierced and scalloped hoops, with original polychrome painted decoration, supporting 12 candle sconces with scalloped drip trays suspended by three chains The gilt bronze is profusely ornated and chiselled with great attention to even the most hidden detail, including the ceiling cap, chains and the body of the light fixture itself. Each element done with intricate pierced scroll work and stylized flowers, leaves and naturalistic patterns, the whole enriched by enamelled flowers, applications of ruby red, emerald green and sapphire blue glass gemstones. The overal design, the Gothic Revival elements in it combined with the striking golden color and original enamel painting make this light an absolute joy to own and look at. The amount of work that went into creating this striking chandelier is almost unimaginable, especially in this day and age. It seems more like a high-quality goldsmith's jewlery artefact than a piece of furniture, the hand chiselled work is incredibly detailed for a chandelier that is always observed from afar, plus the glass and enamel mounted decorative elements are all signs of high end craftsmanship and very important provenance. When illuminated or unlit, this chandelier fills any room with noble elegance. This wonderful Gothic style pendant light look beautiful in the daytime, but with the total of 12 candles lit up in the evening, the warm light shining onto the gilt bronze and colored glasses creates a spiritual atmosphere that is truly remarkable and one that will never fail to impress. It will be the eyecatcher lighting fixture in any room and an interesting conversation piece. The chandelier is in very good condition and professionally wired so it is definitely ready to hang for immediate usage. It comes with newly hand made artisanal white silk and blue trim lampshades and light bulbs. Dimensions: Diam. 70 x H. 110 cm

  • French 19th Century Empire Porcelain and Gilt Bronze Decorative Jewelry Box
    Located in Firenze, IT
This French Empire 19th century rectangular porcelain dresser box or jewlery decorative casket has a wonderfully patinated powder blue/cerulean light blue background color and features grotesque masks, architectural vase, fruit, flowers and leafy scrolled design throughout painted as a trompe l’oeil in the round. Ormolu mounts enrich the whole box. The paintings on this casket are striking as is the color palette used, a wonderful mix of light purple, cream, blue and soft brown. The lid is centered by a grotesque mask inspired by antiquity. The front, back and sides are profusely decorated with architectural elements, cartouches and volutes. The design is centered by a vase with a fruit arrangement that appear to be plums. The decoration could refer to the allegory of autumn and the mask painted on the lid could refer to Bacchus. Both the color of the porcelain and the paintings are very unusual and a sign of high quality and uniqueness. The box was most probably given to a high-ranking lady as a gift on the occasion of her marriage, or perhaps after the birth of a child. The lidded box is fitted with ormolu mounts, hinges and clasp. A gilt bronze band finelly chiseled in the form of a rope adorns the upper part. The trinket box rests on four gilt bronze lion paw feet. This striking French porcelain box...

    By Carlo Ginori
    Located in Firenze, IT
This truly exceptional and rare antique early 19th century Ginori two handles hand-painted porcelain vase is inspired by those that the Medici, Florence's ruling family during the Renaissance, used to put in their homes, gardens and courtyards. The white porcelain background is richly decorated in the round with royal blue and 24-karat parcel-gilt details throughout. A large, completely gilded band decorates the upper and lower part of the vase that features two white and gold fluted handles each with two gold men’s masks finals that join the body of the vase. Two multicolored hand painted coats of arms of a noble Italian family featuring an armor with red, rose, green and yellow feathers and a rampant lion are painted at the very centre among the gold painted foliage both framed by an oval gilt band. The gilding on this stunning neoclassical centrepiece...

  • 19th Century Gothic Bronze Incense Burner ~ Chandelier
    Located in Dallas, TX
19th century Gothic Bronze Incense Burner ~ Chandelier is a remarkable example of the art of the metalsmith, rendered in solid bronze to last for centuries! At some point it was wired in Europe but it has not been rewired for use in the USA. Starting at the bottom, a trefoil appears, which along with the motifs emanating up to the main circular body of the chandelier, stand for the Holy Trinity. The words are inscribed in Latin around the hoop "Christ is Light", positioned in between the six shield crests that project outwards topped with a crown and embossed with a stylized INRI representing the placard that was placed over Jesus during his crucifixion. The main body is enhanced with geometric repeating coin forms all around behind the shields, with the same three-pointed cross motif both above and below. The entire affair is suspended by the original chain sections alternating between orb-shaped links and twisted rods. All connect to the crown above, also decorated with the same cross motifs as seen below. What an incredible work of devotional art...
