About the Item

Jonathan Trayte [British, b. 1980] Desert lights (1), 2020 Powder coated stainless steel, blown glass, brass, raffia, light fittings Measures: 78 x 44 x 44 inches 198 x 112 x 112 cm Drawing inspiration from the surreal aspects of seemingly-mundane objects in our daily life, Jonathan Trayte’s approach is largely informed by our global language of consumption and the manipulation of consumer decision-making. Trayte was born in 1980 in Huddersfield, UK. Coming from a background in fine art sculpture, Trayte received a Bachelor of Fine Art degree from University of the Creative Arts Canterbury in 2004 and a Masters of Fine Arts from Royal Academy Schools in 2010. Trayte combines his broad experiences in other fields—including as a chef and foundry metal worker—with his keen eye for finding the obscure aspects of daily life that would typically go unnoticed. "The work that I tend to make comes together all at once, like a cast of characters,” says Trayte. “There's always some weird older brother, the 'black sheep,' that doesn't quite fit." Using a wide range of materials, methods and processes, his work explores the psychology of desire through surface, material, light and color. In thinking of food as a basic material, he uses castings and facsimiles to examine the many ways in which we perceive and utilize our resources. His work has been included in numerous international exhibitions including Psychotropics, The New Art Centre, Wiltshire, UK (2020); The London Open, Whitechapel Gallery, London (2018); Tropicana, Christies, London (2017), Milk, Christies, London (2016), Polyculture, The Tetley, Leeds, UK (2016); Experiments in Consuming, The Kings School, Canterbury, UK (2016); and The Shoppers Guide, Royal Academy of Arts, London (2015). Recently, Trayte was selected by Sculpture in the City to create a large-scale site-specific installation entitled The Spectacle (2019) in London. Trayte lives and works in London.

Thaddeus Wolfe, "Untitled", 2022
By Thaddeus Wolfe
Located in New York, NY
Thaddeus Wolfe [American, b. 1979] Untitled, 2022 Glass 29.25 x 16.25 x 10.5 inches 74.3 x 41.3 x 26.7 cm Brooklyn-based Thaddeus Wolfe has developed a wholly original approach to sculpting glass. Combining techniques of glassblowing and casting, Wolfe achieves what would not otherwise be possible in the material--developing his signature vocabulary of angular, highly textured forms. His unique process begins by sculpting a form from broken and carved styrofoam pieces, using meticulous yet improvisatory methods. From this form, Wolfe generates a single-use plaster mold for casting the glass. Color and texture are achieved by layering different tints of glass onto a glass bubble, which is inflated into the cavity of the heated mold. After un-molding the piece, Wolfe carves and polishes certain surfaces to reveal the interior strata. The resulting works which he often refers to as assemblages are part painterly, part geological. Wolfe has held residencies at Creative Glass Center of America Millville, NJ; Museum of Glass, Tacoma, WA; and Pilchuck Glass School, Stanwood, WA. His work is in the permanent collections of the Corning Museum of Glass, NY (where he was awarded the 2016 Rakow Commission); Indianapolis Museum of Art, IN; Musée de Arts...

Misha Kahn, "A Little of This and a Little of That", 2022
By Misha Kahn
Located in New York, NY
Misha Kahn [American, b. 1989] A Little of This and a Little of That, 2022 Ceramic Measures: 36 x 48 x 20.25 inches 91 x 122 x 51 cm Misha Kahn has emerged as one of the leading creative voices of his generation. Through a wildly imaginative approach that embraces spontaneity and non-conformity, Kahn allows the illogical and the irreverent to take over his entire process. He employs everything from lo-fi and ad hoc techniques—such as improvisational molds and collage—to high-tech tools such as virtual reality and robotics. Born in Duluth, Minnesota in 1989, Kahn graduated from Rhode Island School of Design in 2011 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Furniture Design. Soon after, he gained recognition when he was featured in the Museum of Arts and Design's Biennial (2014). Unafraid to push boundaries, Kahn is determined to question the accepted way of doing things, driving him to self-invent, adapt, and further processes in a myriad of mediums including metalwork, glass, wood, textiles, ceramic, bronze casting, fiberglass, and cement. Voracious to upend traditional techniques, he embraces the opportunity to learn from masters in their respective crafts. Kahn’s acclaimed woven Scrappy series (since 2015), is the result of a collaboration with Gone Rural, a female group...
